More about El Cuchillo
El Cuchillo is one of the most photogenic launches on Lanzarote: a few running steps along the rim of a dormant volcanic caldera in Tinajo, and the ground falls away to a sea of black scoria stretching out to the Atlantic.
Why fly here
- A crater under your feet. The caldera below is the kind of view you can't fake. It turns up in nearly every clip filmed on the island, and seeing it from the air is something else.
- Lift along the rim. When the wind sits in the N sector, the rim works beautifully and the wing climbs along the edge of the crater.
- Room to take it in. At 350 m above the plain, you have the height to see all of it: black craters, red earth and farmland running out to the coast.
What to expect on the day
A 30-minute drive from Arrecife takes you up the volcanic slope of Tinajo. Your pilot gets you kitted up at the top, you run a few steps together, and you're out over the caldera with the whole of Tinajo opening up below.
